Pittsburgh death-doom tyrants Ritual Mass have announced the arrival of their debut full-length album, Cascading Misery, due out September 5 via 20 Buck Spin. Feel free to get yourselves utterly devastated below thanks to the appropriately-named single “Immeasurable Hell”.
“While the rest of Cascading Misery deals in spiritual bedlam,” said Ritual Mass, “‘Immeasurable Hell’ is a declaration of collapse, the sound of nature and humanity beginning to circle the drain.”
Engineered by Greg Wilkinson (Ulthar, Autopsy, Undergang) at Mr. Smalls Recording Studio in Pittsburgh and mixed/mastered at his Earhammer Studios in Oakland, Cascading Misery sounds both massive and putrid, thick with the dread-soaked aura of bands like Vastum, Krypts, and Funebrarum.
Visually, the album’s bleakness is matched by the cover painting, logo, and layout created by the band’s P. Trona, with additional artwork from Bo Orr and Erik Von Bartholomaus, plus stunning 35mm photography by J. Adams.
The release of Cascading Misery also marks a milestone for 20 Buck Spin, as Ritual Mass becomes the first band from the label’s current hometown of Pittsburgh to join its revered roster. For fans of Incantation, Abhorrence, Phrenelith, Master, and the slow-motion dread of Disembowelment, Ritual Mass‘ debut is essential listening.
Preorders for Cascading Misery are available now via the 20 Buck Spin webshop and Bandcamp.
