Sammy Hagar has announced a new live album titled Sammy Hagar & The Best of All Worlds Band – The Residency. The October 10th release captures Hagar with his all-star band of Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff performing at the Dolby Live at Park MGM as part of their Las Vegas residency earlier this year.
As a preview, Hagar has unleashed a live version of Van Halen’s “Summer Nights,” one of 19 songs on the album. “‘Summer Nights’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the 5150 record, on our very first day in the studio,” said Hagar in a press release. “Eddie [Van Halen] played me that guitar riff and I just started singing ‘summer nights and my radio,’ and the rest of the lyrics just came out like a river of consciousness.”
He added, “I don’t think there’s a better theme song for a beautiful summer night, so it had to be the first track this summer from the live album.”
Other Van Halen songs on the live album are “Panama” (which is only on the physical vinyl and CD editions), “Right Now,” “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love,” among others. Also included are Hagar solo favorites like “Heavy Metal” and “I Can’t Drive 55.”
