Trader Joe’s is opening two locations in Texas this year, but similar to some other national chains, many El Pasoans have wondered if the popular grocery chain was bound to pop up in the Sun City.
Known for its private-label and unique items, Trader Joe’s has at least 26 locations in Texas, including new store openings in Kingwood and Cypress (both in Houston) in 2025. Nearby New Mexico has three locations, two in Albuquerque and one in Santa Fe.
Trader Joe’s second location in Delaware opened on April 28, 2021, at the Christiana Fashion Center.
It appears that Trader Joe’s has overlooked West Texas, as many of its stores are located in the central part of the state, with the majority situated in San Antonio, Dallas and Austin.
The El Paso Times reached out to the chain to inquire about the possibility of a Trader Joe’s opening in the near future. We heard back from Nakia Rohde, Public Relations Manager.
“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year, ” Rohde wrote in an email. “At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in El Paso.”
Rhode then directed us to the Trader Joe’s location finder.
While it seems to be a ‘no’ for us for now, a recent El Paso Reddit thread is advocating for the chain to come to El Paso by sharing a link where you can request a Trader Joe’s to come to your city.
“Personally I think a TJ’s (Trader Joe’s) would make a great fit here! If you agree, take a few seconds to fill this form and let them know you are also interested,” the post on Reddit said.
